British expats who have long been working abroad usually end up living abroad upon retirement. Probably because they have been so used to living in other countries that they have adopted the other culture's way of life. If you are one of those British expats who are looking for places to settle in once you have reached your age of retirement then this article will be able to give you a few helpful ideas.
British expats need not look any further because the Baltic Countries also referred to as the Baltic States or Baltic Nations are great places for retirement. These are the Baltic territories that gained independence during the First World War from the Russian Empire: Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania.
Retiring to any of these three Baltic Countries after living abroad for a very long time can be viewed as the icing on the cake. The economies of these three countries have seen a huge rise since the 2000s and despite being hit by the financial crisis which affected most economies around the world from 2007 to 2010, their growth steadily increased over the last two years.
Travelling to Estonia and Latvia is easy for any British citizen as no visa is required. Working abroad can be quite a challenge so most expats look forward to retirement and what better way to enjoy retirement but in Estonia or the two other Baltic States. A permanent residency is awarded to those who have resided for at least 5 years.
When retreating to other countries to settle for retirement, there are a lot of factors to consider like medical healthcare facilities, living expenses, accommodation, and the security. Expats will never have to worry because there are comprehensive programs for retirees and other people who wish to seek permanent residency in any of the three Baltic Countries, like expatriate health insurance.
The cost of living in Latvia is not as expensive compared to other European countries so it is safe to say that this is the perfect destination for settling in, especially in one of the major cities like Riga.
It is also to be noted that there are little known crimes in any of these three Baltic Countries so residents and non-residents don't have to worry about their safety should they visit either of the three.
People might think that living abroad will just be too stressful but settling to any of the beautiful counties of the Baltic territories could turn out to be a perfect choice!
