Crystal - The New Age Decor Rage

Crystal with its numerous luminous surfaces has always been a favorite with decorators. It reflects light, gives the room a magical gleam and at the same time, lends a timeless elegance to the ambience. Nothing compares to a serene setting with crystal centerpieces and candle-holders. Crystal is not only very beautiful to look at but it also transforms its surroundings. Though crystals are stunning in their natural forms, when shaped and polished, they gain an unparalleled beauty. Crystal trees and crystal centerpieces are specially made for occasions like weddings and other celebrations.

Crystal Tree - the contemporary look:
A crystal tree in the centre of the room naturally becomes a stunning focal point. It can have silver or gold -painted branches with dripping ropes of crystal. This magnificent tree strategically placed atop a bar or near a card station can magically transform the ambience. A crystal tree is a perfect show stealer for weddings, showers, receptions etc. wedding planners and event managers use these trees imaginatively to create an enchanting and exotic look.

Crystal centerpieces:
Crystal centerpieces can add elegance and class to your table d矇cor or corners if placed suitably. You must take care of the lighting to enhance the effect of your crystal centerpieces. Crystal candle holders are a rage for any big event. In addition to the aesthetic value, crystal centerpieces add a lot of harmony and positive energy if placed with an idea of their form, color and type. The transparency of crystals such as Quartz and Amethyst not only lends an ethereal charm but also drives out any negative energy in the house. They also look absolutely beautiful as ornaments.

Crystal centerpieces have a beautiful glaze and if you take into consideration their shape and color before placing them, they can enhance the look of any furniture you put them on. A beautiful amethyst stone placed on your desk will glaze brilliantly and will also help you concentrate better.

Crystal pyramids are in vogue now and serve as good crystal centerpieces. They come in all colors and are very visually appealing. A rosaen quartz in the living room balances emotions when the family gathers.

A large centerpiece looks very eye-catching but for a more interesting look, you can try putting together a number of small pieces of varying colors and shapes. This gives a very artistic look and holds the eye longer. You can add a lot of style to your rooms by using crystal centerpieces. Their clear cuts and surfaces make them perfect decoration pieces which look very elegant as well as chic. All that is required is some planning of colors and shapes and you can have a very tastefully done up house with your crystal d矇cor.

Tent Rental Disasters and How to Avoid Them

When a corporate event, a wedding, a special event, party or fundraiser is planned for outdoors, often an event tent or party tent will be required. Protection from the elements and providing for a central gathering area is essential. Over the years I've collected a few horror stories involving outdoor events. Some of the worst stories involved workers not realizing exactly where the power lines are located - both overhead and underground. Be sure to use an insured rental company who works with a qualified and trained staff to make sure your next event is a safe and enjoyable affair.

POOR INSTALLATION: A South Carolina hotel's expansive grounds provided the perfect backdrop for a young couple's wedding mid-afternoon reception. The wedding planner had spent two long days with her crew decorating the inside of a high-top marquee tent. It rained the night before the wedding. The tent company (from Florida) had staked the marquee tent in the grass; however, something had not gone well. The tent accumulated a lot of rain in drooped pockets on the roof and by late morning, many of the stakes pulled up. The reception was forced to move inside the hotel lobby, not an ideal solution as there was barely enough room for the guests.

POWER LINES: Two workers were killed and two others injured when a tent pole struck a power line at Thorn Hill Farms in McClellanville, SC. Dexter Keyes, 37, and John Fortney, 45 of Stage Presence Equipment Rentals were electrocuted when the metal tent pole they were erecting touched a low hanging power line over the site. (Projection, Lights & Staging News: PLSN.com)

STRONG WINDS: Last summer in Washington D.C., severe weather caused trees to topple. A permanent tent erected in the National Mall collapsed from the powerful wind gusts where several people had taken shelter. Luckily, all were rescued and no one was seriously injured. (WJLA.com news)

MICROBURST: "DALLAS COWBOYS BUBBLE TENT COLLAPSES" This structure is not the traditional event rental, but a bubble canopy. 70-80mph winds and a crazy microburst are the leading contenders for why the tent collapsed. Three people were seriously injured, including the Cowboy's scouting assistant who is permanent paralyzed. (Story here)

STRONG WINDS: At a University of Buffalo graduation ceremony the winds became stronger and stronger. As people at the event noticed the weather getter worse, they asked to move the ceremonies inside. Shortly thereafter the tent collapsed. (WGRZ.com)

YET MORE STRONG WINDS: 5,000 festival goers were under the Oktoberfest Bier Garden tent and about 2,000 people were under another tent when they collapsed from strong winds. 21 people were taken to the hospital. (TulsaWorld.com)

Not all tents are staked in the ground. Some are built specifically to handle strong wind loads. Saddle spans, (ask known as saddlespan tents) for instance, are rated for up to a 70mph wind gust and are not always anchored into the ground via traditional tent stakes. Some tents use special eco-ballast (large recycled concrete blocks) as an anchoring system and many tents use water ballast tanks. All these anchor systems can work extremely well when installed correctly by trained crew. Some tents such as TopTents newest addition to the marketplace are specially designed to even withstand snow loads.

SAFETY FIRST!

Ask questions:

  1. Is the tent material Fire Resist (not just Fire-Rated, it must be Fire Resistant)

  2. What is the tent material? Some of the safest materials are manufactured with Polythene (PE) and Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC).

  3. How old are the tents and have they been rated recently?

  4. Are the framing materials rated? Are they structurally sound?

  5. What is the dollar amount of liability on the tents? Ask for a fax or copy of the certificate of insurance.

  6. Will the tents be staked or held with ballasts?

  7. Are the tents rated for wind, snow or other bad weather conditions? Ask the tent rental company to elaborate -  how strong of winds are the structures rated for? etc.

  8. Make sure you understand the different style of tents being offered and each of their ratings.

  9. Will the tents be inspected by the Fire Department after setup?

  10. The single most critical safety decision you will make in relationship to installing a tent is the site location and the potential underground and or overhead utilities including: gas lines, power lines, septic and sewer lines, sprinkler systems, fiber optic cables, telephone transmission lines. The importance of taking the time to do whatever it takes to make a safe event cannot be overstated enough. CALL BEFORE YOU DIG OR STAKE!

Turning a Dream Into a Reality

Sometimes a window of opportunity presents itself and if you blink you could miss it.

We've been talking about our passion for Africa for years. Simply going on holiday there hasn't been enough for either of us and returning to the UK, at the end of any African holiday becoming more and more of a wrench. Yet we did nothing about it, although this was largely due to the fact that one of my children was still at home.

I've had this dream since the first time I set foot in the Masaai Mara nearly 15 years ago and fortunately it has also become Sean's dream after his first visit to S Africa in 2005 for our wedding. Luckily he fell in love with Africa too.

I've noticed that people often put off their dreams - maybe it's because they appear to be too far away, too remote, too untouchable. Or perhaps it's the perception that it could be too difficult to make happen. Perhaps it's down to fear or circumstances. Or, it could simply be down to our self belief, and doubts about having the relevant experience. Whatever the reason, there is a real danger of not, at the very least taking the initial steps into turning a dream into a reality.

Certainly in my case, I had practically wiped the possibility of making it happen from my mind. And then my youngest decided that he was going to defer his university place and have a gap year BUT he wanted to be independent and move out. Suddenly the possibility crept back into my consciousness. "It's now or never", was one of my thoughts. The other was, "do I really want to be sat here in 20 years regretting not having at least tried to make it happen".

In both our minds we had created all sorts of obstacles and barriers, so after a sole searching discussion we agreed that we had to at least take some action. The first step was to make a list our favourite places. And the next step was to make contact. At this stage some unhelpful internal dialogue started up, little voices whispering all kinds of doubts & fears and as I noticed how these started to make me feel, I managed to overcome them with positive action.

I chose to send out just one email (to test the water) to one of our favourite camps. It simply stated our passion for Africa and our desire to run a safari lodge and our belief that we had the skill set to do so. Within 20 hours we had a response - it just so happened that our email coincided with this camp looking for a new management couple. The discussions began and within 6 weeks we got confirmation that we were going to Zambia for the new season which would start at the end of February 2011.

When that email arrived in my inbox, all I could do was jump about squealing with delight! The only words that I could get out (much to Sean's annoyance), were I CAN'T BELIEVE IT, OMG! IT REALLY, REALLY IS HAPPPENING! Followed by more squeals of delight, until Sean grabbed me by the shoulders and asked me to please calm down and share with him whatever it was that had make me react this way. Words cannot describe how we felt. Even now, and we're doing it, it can sometimes feel quite unreal.

It's a very exciting new chapter of our lives, with new challenges to be faced daily and of course dealing with being so far away from our family and friends.

And the really scary thing is that we very nearly didn't do anything about it. Once we'd made the initial decision to take some action, the action became the plan and then the ACTION = DREAM = REALITY!

Black and White Wedding Theme: Best Ways to Use Black and White As the Theme of Your Wedding

A black and white wedding theme is popular among many couples, because it is simple and sophisticated. These two colors are timeless on its own and when combined together becomes ultra sleek and modern. They have a stark contrast, which is great if you want certain elements to visually pop. Weddings that rely on these two colors are typically more formal, it's definitely a black tie event. There is nothing casual about a black and white wedding.

The great thing about having a black and white wedding theme is that it is not limited to a specific time period. You can make it feel vintage by adding elements of old Hollywood or make it feel contemporary by incorporating lots of three-dimensional shapes and figures. Whether you are going for glamorous or modern, these two colors can make it work. You can play around with the amount of colors used, it can either be a nice balance or both, mostly white with black accents or mostly black with white accents.

If you want the entire event to carry out your black and white theme, it's important to get your guests involved too. You must make sure your wedding guests are well-informed that there is a dress code. Make the request prominent on your wedding invitations and have them confirm. Use invitations that are classically black and white to let them know exactly what kind of theme to expect.

Wedding cakes are traditionally white, however adding the right amount of black gives it an entirely different feel. The contrast of black and white on a wedding cake really makes the cake itself stand out. Think black and white checkered designs or white with black swirls, it adds a bit of whimsy and fun to an otherwise boring cake. Using black as an accent to create an image on a completely white cake or the other way around is another great way of combining the two colors.

In keeping with the black and white wedding theme, the bride should stick with the traditional white wedding gown. The bridesmaids can contrast the bride by wearing black dresses. Whether it's short or long, the bridesmaids will love having this option. Not only does it make them look slimmer, it's something universal that they can most likely wear again. The bride herself can add a black sash over her waist to not only suit the theme of her wedding, but also make her entire look more chic. Not a lot of thought goes into the men's attire since they will already be wearing black and white.

There are many other little details that can be included into this theme. For instance the bridal bouquet, select an arrangement of pure white flowers and use a black ribbon to hold it all together. Black and white wedding favors are easy to find, let your wedding guests leave with something special to remember the day by. There are many wedding favor or party supply shops with exclusive black and white products that you can choose from.

Wedding Insurance

With so much on their minds already, today's bride and groom have yet another choice to make when it comes to planning their wedding... wedding insurance. In a nut shell, wedding insurance is exactly what it says it is. It is an insurance policy that covers you and protects you against any accident or problems that might occur during your wedding. Now you are probably thinking, what the heck do I need that for? But think about it, the average costs of weddings today is in the upper 20 thousand dollar range. This is the cost of a down payment on a home and you purchase home owners insurance when you purchase a home. Doesn't it then make sense to protect this large money investment?

Before you shake your head and disregard getting insurance altogether, here are some things to consider. Most wedding insurance policies only cost in the range of 125 to 500 dollars for a basic plan. The overall cost depends on the type of policy you purchase, the total cost of your wedding and whether or not you purchase any extra riders to your policy. The purchase of wedding insurance can be done 12 months before the wedding or even within 24 hours of the blessed event.

So now that you know what it costs, it is important to understand what wedding insurance actually covers. Think about it, you spent all this time planning, so you really want to make sure that your wedding is covered so that you can recoup all the money you put out for deposits you have given to vendors, or at the very least having your wedding rescheduled. The following things are covered under a basic policy:

Location

If something happens to your location such as bankruptcy which causes them to close or a fire or other disaster which prevent you wedding from taking place, you will get complete reimbursement of what you have put out of your pocket.

Weather

Most wedding insurance policies cover extreme weather that make it impossible for your wedding guests to attend such as flooding, hurricanes, snowstorms or any other natural weather event. Most policies will cover the cost of rescheduling your wedding.

Illness/injury

Wedding insurance will proved coverage if someone in the wedding party or immediate family is unable to attend the wedding because they became injured or are too ill to attend. The policy will either pay for postponement or rescheduling of the event.

Missing Vendors/Officiant

If one of your vendors should happen to not show up, a wedding insurance policy will help you also recover the cost of rescheduling the whole wedding.

There are additional riders that you can purchase which will cover things like the wedding having to be postponed because either the bride or the groom has been called to military duty; coverage for the bride and grooms attire against damage; coverage for lost or damaged gifts; liability coverage in case someone gets hurt at your wedding and honeymoon insurance in case your entire trip is canceled because of unforeseen circumstances. You can also purchase Event Liability and Property Damage Insurance which covers the bride and groom against any type of alcohol related accidents with guests, vendor injury or if a vendor causes damage to anyone or anything or even if someone at the wedding ends up being injured.

Just about the only thing that is not covered in some way by Wedding Insurance are cold feet. Wedding insurance is a wonderful addition to planning any wedding and should be taken quite seriously. For just a fraction of your overall wedding costs, you will be covered and will get a large portion of your money back or a rescheduled wedding should something happen. It will definitely take a big weight off of your shoulders when you get the right coverage.

A Nightmare on Your Wedding Day

While of course the fictional character from nightmares Freddy Krueger will not actually be chasing you on your wedding day, your big day could well turn into a nightmare and for many reasons. Most weddings go off without a hitch; however there are some that are destined to remain with you for some time for all the wrong reasons. Here are just some of the many scenarios, where if you had given some thought to wedding insurance, you might have avoided nightmares.

All is set for your big day; however, the day before your wedding your photographer suffers an accident that leaves him on pain medication. The show must go on of course and he doesn't want to let you down, so he turns up at your wedding a little "high" on painkillers. While he thinks he is going to be the hero of the day, this is far from true as he will find out when he develops the rolls of film. His shaky hands mean many of the photos of your big day are blurred and out of focus, some even have you looking as though you are standing on a slope, and heads and feet are cut off. They are photos from hell. No matter how many apologies are given it does not make it any easier that you have horrible memories of your beautiful day. With wedding insurance you would be typically covered and could coerce your guests into dressing the part again and retake the photos again courtesy of your policy.

Picture this. You have booked a fairy-tale wedding including a horse and carriage. You are going to be the belle of your own ball on your big day. However everything goes "pumpkin" shape before the carriage even arrives and well before midnight, as the horse pulling your carriage suffers an injury whilst being hooked up. Just an hour before you are expected to pull up at the church and exit the golden carriage for your fairy-tale wedding, you find that there is no horse to pull the carriage! What now? Walk to the wedding? Arrive in the back of your dad`s old Ford? If you had shopped around and compared wedding insurance and had a policy, you could use this for financial compensation and rebook alternative transport to make sure that you reached your wedding on time.

That little village church may look quaint set in a picturesque valley surrounded by hills and greenery, but what happened if due to adverse weather the village was submerged under 2 feet of water on your big day and you and your guests could not get there? What if the venue holding the reception burnt to the ground a couple of days before your big day? What if the flower shop forgot to order those special flowers and your bouquets did not arrive? There are a million and one things that could affect your wedding day, which could mean Freddy Krueger is one of the main guests. Consider checking out what wedding insurance has to offer, a policy typically covers many different things that could give you nightmares for a very long time to come after the big day.

How to Address Wedding Invitation Envelopes

Your wedding invitation is your first chance to make an impression, so you want to make sure that it is a great one! Just as there is traditional wedding invitation wording, there is also a form to follow when it comes to addressing the envelopes for the invitations. For every situation, there is a proper way to write out the address. This handy primer covers what every bride should know about how to address a wedding invitation envelope.

Even the most informal wedding is still a special occasion, and the invitations should reflect that. It does not matter if your style is to wear bridal jewelry which is a family heirloom for a grand wedding at "the club" or if your wedding is more like simple handcrafted bridal jewelry worn for a wedding in a state park. Either way, it is important to take care when addressing the wedding invitation envelopes.

The first tip is to either hire a calligrapher or to learn calligraphy on your own. The hasty scribble you use to jot down your grocery list is not elegant enough for the invitations! Calligraphy, by the way, may sound very formal and fancy, but there are also styles which are modern and unique. For an extra added detail, think about ordering custom postage stamps.

Everything on a wedding invitation should be spelled out, with the exception of "Mr.", "Mrs." and "Dr.". This includes words like Street, Drive, and Avenue, as well as the city and state. Military titles should always be spelled out in full, so you would use "Captain", not "Cpt." and "Lieutenant", not "Lt.". Also write out words such as apartment, rather than using the abbreviation "apt." or #. Since the word apartment is long, you can use it on a separate line underneath the street address, if needed.

A wedding invitation addressed to a married couple would read as follows: Mr. and Mrs. Henry Tate / 306 Talbot Circle / Stamford, Connecticut / 06907. Notice that the zip code has its own line underneath the city and state. It looks best when it is set slightly off to the right so that it lines up near the end of the state name.

A married couple with two different names should be addressed thusly: Ms. Katherine Howard and Mr. Henry Tate. The name of the woman goes first, and be sure to use her full name, even if she goes by Kay, Katie, or Kathy normally. Sometimes the time spent discovering the full names of your friends can be one of the toughest parts of addressing the invitation envelopes. If putting both names on the same line makes it very long, it is acceptable to write each name on its own line, omitting the "and".

An unmarried couple living together will have their wedding invitation addressed this way: Miss (or Ms.) Rachel Hill / Mr. Thomas Sessions / etc... The names will each have their own line, and the proper order is alphabetical by last name. The same applies to same sex couples who live together. For couples who live separately, avoid using "and guest", and find out the name of your guest's significant other. He or she should receive their own invitation, either at their home, or at the home of your primary invitee.

With this information in hand, you should be ready to address your wedding invitations in a manner that is timeless and elegant. When your guests receive them in the mail, they will make an excellent first impression, and get them excited about your wedding!

Wedding Insurance? Forget It, The Odds Are Almost In Your Favour

You don't really need wedding insurance at all, because there is a little known statistic which insurance companies tend to keep to themselves. The truth is that last year there were over a quarter of a million weddings in the UK, and out of those, how many weddings in the UK had something go so horribly wrong that the couple in question needed to rely upon their wedding insurance policy to help them out?

What the insurance companies won't tell you is that almost half of the weddings which took place last year, that's around 125,000, went so smoothly that there was absolutely no need to worry about wedding insurance.

That's right, on average only half of the weddings in the UK last year would have needed to rely their insurance policy (if they had one), meaning that the reality is that when it comes to your wedding, you have at least a 50% chance of having nothing to worry about.

So if you are having your wedding, and someone you know is having their wedding, the probability exists that you will have nothing to worry about at all, and that the 50% of the weddings that will require some form of insurance will be your friend's, not yours.

After all, it's your wedding, your special day, and you've only invited friends and family who you get on with. What could possibly go wrong at your wedding? Almost certainly the 125,000 weddings last year which experienced some form of disaster that ended up with possibly the insurance company having to pay out were almost certainly doomed from the very start.

Disasters and problems happen to other people. That's what newspapers, magazines and the news are all for - reading about the disastrous experiences of other people.

So with the insurance companies staying ominously quiet about the fact that only half of the weddings in the UK actually had to rely on the insurance company getting them through one disaster or another, you might as well stop worrying about your wedding, and stop worrying about wedding insurance.

It's also worth remembering that a wedding insurance policy could easily cost 瞿20, and that's almost the price of another bottle of wine on the table your reception. 瞿20 could go a long way towards making your wedding extra special, and so it's hardly worth worrying about wasting a couple of tenners protecting your wedding, when 125,000 of them went perfectly smoothly last year without any need for insurance.

So if you have been wondering whether or not to take out an insurance policy for your wedding, take these statistics to heart and realise that you have at least a 50-50 chance of not needing an insurance policy at all.

Of course, if you're still a little uncertain about the whole idea, and you're prepared to throw away 瞿20 or so protecting your 瞿20,000 wedding, then by all means take out a wedding insurance policy. You may simply feel that the 50-50 chance of needing to rely on a wedding insurance policy is good enough for you, in which case you may find it of interest to look around at the many wedding insurance policies currently available.

Redefining the Cemetery Concept

At the advent of the 21st century, the cemetery concept is being redefined, in which cemeteries are no longer just repositories for the dead. Consequently, an increasing number of cemeteries are transforming themselves into multipurpose facilities in which funerals, interment, and cremation are only among the services they offer. The extension of hospitality services to embrace tourism, photography, and passive recreation (e.g. jogging, walking, reading, quiet contemplation) and include weddings, baptisms, bar- and bat-mitzvahs, private parties, business seminars, lectures, and even floral shows, festivals, holiday specials, and concerts can be attributed to a number of factors:

1. Culture - the perception of death has changed from an inevitable somber event into a celebration of life, sharing of treasured memories and an opportunity to acquaint oneself with long lost friends and relatives (though not without tears).

2. Environs - the construction of bright comforting climate-controlled mausoleums and creation of serene cheerful urn gardens are challenging and supplanting the paradigm that cemeteries need be desolate, melancholy tombstone filled repositories. Many with their picturesque landscapes comprised of "magnificent trees, rolling hills, glacial lakes," ponds, gorgeous fountains, and even wildlife and museums are "oases amid the sprawl of modern development."[1]

3. Historical - with their interred, and array of architecture and monuments, cemeteries provide a connection to the past and documentary of the evolution of human history, perceptions, and emotions as captured by the changing architecture ranging from simple, weathered 18th century tombstones, elaborate (sometimes eroding) 19th century mausoleums and sculpted angels and allegorical figures, 20th century rediscovery of simplicity, and 21st century photographic and even interactive (audio and video on demand) tombstones.

4. Financial - To ease its annual operating deficit of $100,000+ Oakwood Cemetery (Troy, NY) held a daffodil brunch in the Gardener Earl Memorial Chapel and Crematorium known for its Siena marble walls and spectacular Tiffany windows, and an outdoor Renaissance Fair featuring knights in armor. Other cemeteries are following the same model and are also building state-of-the-art mausoleums to improve efficiency.

5. Many older cemeteries especially those nearing the end of their active lives as they deplete their available burial space need to reinvent themselves to ensure continued financial viability.

Currently, several schools now even offer cemetery studies and/or have field trips to cemeteries with the objective of encouraging appreciation of the unique historical perspective of a specific place. As a result, Woodlawn Cemetery (Bronx, NY) among others offers "opportunities for students studying Art History, Historic Preservation, Landscape Architecture, Archival Records, American History, American Culture and other related fields."

According to one teacher, Cara Bafile, the annual class trip to the cemetery has "become a looked forward to tradition [in which some beg to go back]." School trips to the cemetery, though are not new. Back in the early 1970s one of the author's school field trips was to a local cemetery where every student was in awe of the largest graves as we looked at the various markers for style and age (e.g. what is the oldest tombstone, who lived the longest, etc.).

Tourism:

Though tourism to cemeteries may seem morbid to some, in the words of Jessica Ravitch, Cemeteries breathe life into tourists (CNN 2008), it "can be inspirational [and] life-affirming... [It can be] a history and architecture lesson [because they are exceptional archives of human and architectural history - thus The Chicago Architecture Foundation offers guided tours of seven of the City's cemeteries charging between $5 to $30 per person], a cultural appreciation course, a genealogical journey and a source of relaxation." Some even view it as a service to those who cannot make the trip and a reminder of the preciousness of life. "Many people find great peace and solace in visiting cemeteries even if their own relatives are not buried there," said Janet Heywood, trustee for the Association for Gravestone Studies in an article written by Benny Snyder, Tombstone tours: Check out these famous cemeteries (USA Today, 10 October 2009).

Cemeteries also maintain a connection to the past and even enhance the learning experience as students and tourists stand next to the resting places of famous persons who made significant contributions during their lifetimes. It is as if they are right next to history. Per Gary Laderman, Professor of Religion at Emory University (Atlanta, GA) and author of Rest In Peace: A Cultural History of Death and the Funeral Home in the 20th Century, it is a "chance for civic engagement to overcome social isolation of historically significant places."

Furthermore, even though cemetery tourism is viewed as the new "in" thing or the latest trend, it is hardly a new phenomenon. Many cemeteries such as Père Lachaise (Paris, France) (established in 1804 by Napoleon Bonaparte) where Maria Callas, Modigliani, Frédéric Chopin, and Oscar Wilde, among others, are buried, and Laurel Hill (Philadelphia, PA) have attracted throngs of tourists for nearly two centuries. Green-Wood Cemetery (Brooklyn, NY) at one point attracted more than 500,000 visitors per year during the mid-to-late 1800s.

Key attractions to tourists and photographers are tombstones, architecture, sculptures (e.g. weeping maidens, angels) mausoleums, and necropolises as well as concerts, lectures, floral shows, and holiday specials to name a few.

While large Victorian-era cemeteries such as Laurel Hill and Green-Wood as well as New Orleans' Lafayette Cemetery No. 1 and St. Louis Cemetery No. 1, which dates back to 1789, (the latter two with their above ground tombs), are top attractions, small cemeteries and graveyards are not without their own treasures.

A quarterly newsletter, Tomb with a View that provides a nationwide listing of cemetery tours is available for cemetery-centric tourists. It can be subscribed to for $15 per year from P.O. Box 24810, Lyndhurst, OH 44124.

Photography:

Cemetery photography, contrary to public perception, is mainstream and popular. It is even profitable enough that some companies specialize solely in cemetery photography. Accordingly Northstar Gallery's website reads they present "a collection of sensuous, fine art photos... of cemetery and memorial art from around the world [that explore and offer] poetry and commentary [on] the historical role of memorial and cemetery art in man's struggle with mortality, immortality, salvation, death and transcendence."

Also, consistent with tourism, cemetery photography (separate and distinct from post-mortem photography) dates back to the medium's infancy. It was not long after the daguerreotype was invented that photographers captured images of cemeteries. Southworth & Hawes, perhaps the most famous daguerreotypist duo captured no less than seven images from Mount Auburn Cemetery (Cambridge, MA). By the 1860s with the development of stereoview, cemetery photography gained in popularity with Green-Wood Cemetery and its scenic views being a favorite among photographers.

Passive Recreation:

Passive recreational activities at cemeteries date back more than a century. During the Victorian-era (1837-1901), cemeteries were the main venue when not the only venue of a locale to enjoy passive recreational activities since many urban areas had no arboretums, no parks, and no museums. At one point so many visitors flocked to Laurel Hill that the cemetery had to issue gate passes and restrict Sunday visits to family members of the deceased.

Consistent with the continued popularity of cemeteries for passive recreational activities, Michael O'Hearn in Visit Mt. Auburn Cemetery writes, it "is a temporary retreat from the urban bustle into a world of trees, birds, [chipmunks], rabbits and statuary. While it sounds unlikely, such places do exist... Mt. Auburn possesses a varied landscape, ponds and glens, hills and dells. The plantings and trees are so thick in places that from above they look like a forest. The monuments... show an array of styles and themes." With its "winding roads and paths named after flowers and trees" Mt. Auburn (founded in 1831 and the nation's first landscaped garden cemetery) defies connotations of the stereotypical graveyard.

In addition, a November 2009 letter from Executive Director Brian Sahd of Friends of the Woodlawn Cemetery (founded 1863 in the Bronx, NY) states, "Woodlawn is an incredible resource for all of us... [It is much] more than a place of rest... [it is one of New York's greatest treasures - rich in irreplaceable architecture, history, culture, and natural wonders... Its 400 acres of rolling hills and monumental architecture invite you to step into a world outside of time. Around every corner is another amazing unexpected discovery. The entire landscape literally is a visual feast of graceful beauty. A Greek temple follows an obelisk, accompanied by the delicate statue of entwined lovers. Azalea bushes bloom under towering elms and graceful willows. Bird songs accompany the play of cottontail rabbits, and chipmunks. A stone bridge spans a peaceful lagoon, surrounded by elegant reminders of New York City's greatness."

Weddings:

Cemetery weddings expand and redefine the paradigm - "...unto death do us part" since death need no longer separate spouses who can be buried together at their wedding site.

As with tourism, even though cemetery weddings are gaining wider acceptance and being held at more venues, they are not a new phenomenon. Since 1928 more than 60,000 weddings have been performed at Forest Lawn Cemetery (Los Angeles, CA) alone.

When Lisa Rigby was requested to photograph Kate's and Daniel's wedding at Mount Auburn Cemetery, she was, in her words, "so excited." "Growing up, I spent so much time in a beautiful, rambling, landscaped cemetery near our house. For us kids the cemetery wasn't some spooky forbidden place. It was where we rode bikes in the summer and built snowmen in the winter. It was where we walked my cocker spaniel, ran and played, and sat to talk with friends for hours on end... I always thought it was sad that so many people were afraid of the cemetery," she wrote on August 21, 2009 in a blog entry about Kate's and Daniel's wedding (all of which the author can identify with having grown up with my brother next to a small historic cemetery for the first seven years of my life in which the cemetery was the setting for many games of chase and hide-and-seek with the neighborhood kids and a lot safer than the parking lot next door).

At the same time, Kate wrote, "[We] were married at Mount Auburn Cemetery... I know it may seem like an odd choice for a wedding, but it's a beautiful place, our favorite in Cambridge. When we walk through it, I find it moving to think about all of the lives that are commemorated there."

When Sheryl and Kurt married in 1990 at Wisconsin Memorial Park's Chapel of Chimes with its church-like setting, vaulted ceilings, stained glass windows, and wall art depicting the Last Supper that serves as part mausoleum and part museum, the groom thought it "perfectly normal and pretty neat" while the bride added, "our wedding was just like any other wedding" according to an account written by William J. Lizdas in Married in a cemetery? Some adore the idea (JS Online, 20 May 2009).

With increasing numbers of cemeteries opening their gates to weddings, Spring Grove Cemetery's (Cincinnati, OH) website reads, "Congratulations on your upcoming nuptials... We offer a variety of unique locations for you to hold your ceremony. The Norman Chapel... built in 1880 boasts several beautiful stained glass windows... The Garden Courtyard... located in the front area of the cemetery/arboretum... is planted with Hybrid Tea Roses, as well as other colorful annual flowers."

Symbolism and Changing Perceptions:

Cemeteries are replete with symbolism (which provide a means of dealing with mortality and providing a semblance of control over death), carvings and epitaphs (used to shed light on the deceased whom have been reduced to mere names (when they still exist on weathered tombstones) (e.g. "Here lies the remains of Hannah, the Wife of Solomon Gedney, who dep: this life April 1788 Aged 37 Yrs." and "Stop Reader Eer the Passeth this stone nor regardless be told that near its Bass (sic) lies deposited the remains of Mary Dixon, Wife of John Dixon, a woman whose reputation was spotless and whose life was spent in the practice of virtue having by her unshaken fortitude and native independence of Soul commanded the esteem of all who knew her. She departed this life August 12th 1811 aged 53 years" etched on tombstones in Eleazor Gedney Burial Ground, Mamaroneck, NY) and the values, hopes (e.g. "She is not dead, the child of our affection - But has gone to realms above" etched on a tombstone for Paulina, daughter of Charles and Sarah Ann Gedney who died on May 9, 1856 at 5 Years, 1 Month, and 11 Days also at Eleazor Gedney Burial Ground, Mamaroneck, NY) and beliefs of past eras), both of which arose with a desire to remember the dead, and have changed with the ages as social perceptions and ways of coping have evolved.

For example, the skull and bones that came to depict death for their use on tombstones in 18th century Spanish cemeteries were replaced by cherub heads by the mid 1800s as the concept of death became socially less terrifying and the weeping willow used to portray sorrow and mourning during the 18th century to mid 19th century were supplanted by other plants - especially lilies to shed a more positive light on death while symbolizing the resurrection and afterlife.

Common Victorian-era symbols that have gradually disappeared from use based on changing social tenets and demographics are lamenting and weeping women (since 19th century norms precluded men from showing emotion; consequently memorials utilizing men depicted them in a prominent light), the use of children and cherubs utilized to invoke sadness at the loss of a child, which had been common during those times, and prevalence of urn vessels (since an urn represented the body as a container that held the soul) and sometimes, though to a significantly lesser extent, other images draped with a pall (clothe used to cover a coffin).

Other symbols found in Victorian-era cemeteries are gates (symbol of the gates of Heaven), Celtic crosses (symbol of the four directions on a compass and mind, body, heart, and soul), birds in flight (symbol of the soul borne aloft), mourning doves (symbol of lamentation and even the Holy Spirit), wreathes (symbol of glory), crosses (symbol of the resurrection), and Star of David (symbol of redemption and of the Jewish people).

Angels are still used to "soften the finality of death" and to provide comfort. Some sit at each side of a grave with "heads bowed, as if guarding the bodies of departed souls" to ease the gloom of subterranean tombs.[2]

Generally, today's symbolism no longer views death as an inevitable finality in which our mortality is lamented but rather as a new beginning because of the hope of the afterlife to come. As a result, angels and other allegorical figures often point skyward as a reminder that the deceased lives in Heaven and tombstones often portray biblical figures such as Jesus (the ultimate symbol of resurrection), Mary, Joseph and biblical scenes such as The Last Supper, the Pieta, and Jesus praying in the Garden of Gethsemane. Other graves are marked by tombstones or ground markers that include sculpted images, etched or embossed photographs, with some high-tech tombstones consisting of even audio (of the deceased speaking) or video (of important moments of a deceased's life) played upon demand.

Mausolea:

Consistent with changing cemetery symbolism, mausolea (which date back to 353 BC when Queen Artemisia II built the world's most splendid tomb as a tribute to her late husband, King Mausolus of Caria) have also evolved through the ages from dark, gloomy, forbidden places that held the remains of prominent families and a few members of the public (when space was available) to multi-story edifices built specifically for the public with bright, ambient décor designed to appeal to the living.

Prior to the advent of new mausolea that began in the early 20th century, famous Greeks and Romans built their own mausolea for centuries until the rise of Christianity, in which only saints were permitted to have monuments (typically churches) built at their graves. However, commencing in the 19th century, wealthy Americans revived the practice and even though such 19th and early 20th century mausolea appeared impressive on the outside, they often consisted of dark, narrow, tiny spaces that in the words of Jack Naudi, New mausoleum keep living in mind (Post-Dispatch, November 6, 2003) were "cold and uninviting to the living."

However, with the new generation of mausolea (with built in skylights, stained-glass windows, plush furniture, and cheery brightness) that consist of family crypts, single crypts, niches, and urn cabinets (the latter two for cremated remains), above ground entombment, which has been popular in Europe for centuries and a necessity for New Orleans cemeteries because of their location below sea level, is becoming increasingly popular in the United States and parts of Asia. Thus these new mausolea are adding to the cemetery experience because of their appealing nature and profit margins because of their efficiency of space.

Conclusion:

With the redefining of the cemetery concept aimed at maximizing their appeal and services to the living, cemeteries are no longer mere repositories for the dead. Instead they are multipurpose facilities that are connected to the communities they serve, bringing people together beyond the constraints of death while promising an unforgettable, comforting experience to all who absorb their striking scenery, view their rich history and architecture, research genealogy and changing social perceptions through tourism, photography, and passive recreation, and of course remember their beloved dead. At the same time, they are providing serene, tasteful resting places for the deceased that even the living can look forward to when our inevitable day arrives.

Appropriate Content For Your Wedding Website & Email Communications

Let's get real, but not to real-vealing!

Your wedding website should give your family and friends exciting information on your wedding celebration itself, NOT, what argument you had with your bridesmaid's sister or how unreasonable your mother is. It is not a blog, and even if it were, it is not appropriate to discuss this out there in cyber space.

This is a place to include stories, but stories of how you first met, your engagement, travel info, local hotels & activities, maps & directions, registry links and an RSVP link.

An ideal way to get the word out is to send a link to your website through your email. Another way is to put your website in an insert in your invitation (like a response card) but NOT on the invite itself. Remember the invitation is only an invitation to your wedding and reception. It is not an invitation to view your website, buy you gifts, etc.

The wedding website is an invaluable tool to communicate to your guests where you're registered without breaking those pesky, but oh so valuable etiquette rules.

If you are using just emails to communicate to all of your guests, the appropriate way to use it includes, Save The Date, Wedding RSVP's, miscellaneous updates, and informal pre-wedding parties. Also use email freely if there are any major changes to your wedding day - new indoor ballroom location due to inclement weather or renovation for example.

Remember, you do not want to create a flurry of gossip, rather you want to create excitement and anticipation leading up to your very special wedding day.

The Congress and Senate - Privileges For the Few

The Congressional and Senatorial office holders have put themselves above the people of this country whose problems they are there to find solutions for instead of providing privileges for themselves and their families far above those they set up for the people. This year they have really gone too far trying to push us into a health care mess the people do not want. They hide behind closed doors and generate plans that we are not permitted to see. This must be stopped.

They have also become a very exclusive club for family advancement for relatives and children to gain office. They seem to have only one aim and that is to gain power for themselves and their party. They try and do gain only favorable coverage from the press who they treat as their own private advertising agency. Even a party, many years ago that resulted in a young ladies death was reported in a very biased way.. Unless they are really caught doing something that cannot be glossed over they have no one to worry about. The ethics committee that is supposed to give oversight to members and hold them accountable is out to lunch. After all, it really only depends on what the meaning of is,is doesn't it?. Where have we heard that before?

If anyone had tried to get schoolchildren to sing a song about George Bush their would have been raised such a hue and cry from the left that would still be ringing through the halls of the capital. The teacher would have been hounded from the school and the papers would have crucified her. The people we want to be our representatives and want to run for office cannot even get a foothold in the two party system. The money interests that stroll through the halls of our capitol and the party hacks that seem to have been born in office and will not back anyone who will not bow to them and the special interests that finance the elections.

I believe it to be about time we cleaned house and got rid of all the old timers that look upon their offices as theirs and will do whatever it takes to keep it. What are we teaching our children about duty, honor, country and sacrifice if we allow this system to go on. They look at us and say "well if they can do it why can't we"? No one is held accountable and made to answer for their deeds. What can we say to them.? Their is example after example of congresspeople and senators that have been in office for 20 or 30 years and more. They are so entrenched in the political system that elections are just formalities.

They have made more money while in office than seems possible and then they have pensions worth a lot. All the while never contributing one dime towards any of it. They grant themselves liberal pay raises and medical coverage for themselves and family that is the envy of the world. My position is that they should have the same medical coverage they give to us under medicare and medicaid. After all , they seem to make enough to pay for their own like they expect us to do.

The whole school system has been turned on its head by special interests for every imaginable group, cause and far left nut cause. We cannot go on like this. Somebody has to say enough. The politicians seems to have let every special interest and lobbyist on the hill dictate what and how bills are developed and who writes them and why nobody knows what is in them. How can this go on any longer. Why don't they post the bills on the web for all to see. I will tell you why! They do not want the American people to see all the pork barrel projects inserted into every bill that comes before them.

Unless people band together with the tea parties and local groups in town hall meetings to take back our local school boards and kick out the national teachers union that has become a sprawling monster that has practically no oversight, then this country will decay from within. It is all up to us as individuals. We must stand together or fall apart. This is the only choice we have left.

Thus far we have seen what Acorn has done with voting fraud cases being brought forth in almost every state against them. People registered many times over, dead people voting, prison populations voting, and other illegal acts being charged against the organization. Video tapes taken by courageous people who knew they would be attacked and ridiculed in the mainstream press as they were when the story broke. Why have the regular news programs like CNN ans CBS and NBC and ABC not taken up and pushed for investigations into Acorn. Only after being goaded into it by Fox news who publicized the affair, did they shame faced and resisting, go into coverage of what happened. And even then they they went after the people that exposed the scandal and tried to make them the villainous party.

What is the Tides foundation story? It claims to be the brainchild of Wayne Rathke who it is alleged to have covered up the theft of millions of dollars by his brother Dale Rathke in 2000 from the Acorn foundation. The people involved in these two groups are now under investigation. We can only surmise what the results will be from the congress, controlled by democrats and most of whom have supposedly received money from Acorns political donations. It will remain to be seen how congress will investigate the organization when they have many members who staunchly defend Acorn and these are the same people who defended the Freddie Mack and Fannie Mae debacle that is still so fresh in our minds.

All the while the congress and senate go their merry way sticking it to us and buttering up their own plates. It seems to be that they can do whatever suits them and no one can stop them or say no to them. They have the ability to make their own laws and give themselves any perks they wish like expense accounts. I do not know where it will end or be curtailed by the people rising up and demanding real change.

Free Wedding Invitation Templates - 5 Things You Must Consider When Creating Your Own Invitations

Using free wedding invitation templates is the perfect way to create inexpensive wedding invitations. But, you may think that free equals cheap, that is not the case if you consider the following points.

1. Give Yourself Plenty Time

Give yourself plenty of time to get it right. You don't want to rush and make your invitations - it will show in the end product. And the more that you experiment with different layouts, text and colors the more ideas you will get which will only improve the look of the finished invitation.

2. Use Good Quality Printer Supplies

For the best results when using your printer use quality inks or toner for your invitations and set the printer to the highest print quality before printing, you will use a little more ink/toner but the results will be worth it.

3. Experiment with Different Paper Types

Purchase a small quantity of different paper types and experiment by printing out sample invitations to see which papers gives the best results. Once you are happy with a particular paper type then purchase enough to complete your wedding invitations.

4. Select a Template Style That Matches Your Wedding Theme

To give your guests a glimpse of your wedding style, select an invitation that matches your wedding theme. For example a black and white invitation with a simple clean uncluttered look would be ideal for a formal wedding style.

5. Proof Read Invitation Wording

You must proof read your invitations several times and to be doubly sure have someone else proof read too, then make the necessary corrections before printing. What I would suggest is that you not print out your invitations for a few days after proof reading. When you are ready to print proof read again, you may be surprised at what you have missed the first time around.

Well after all the time and effort that you have put into creating your invitations you don't want to have to throw away a hundred invitations (it will only cost you money) because of an error that you missed.

A Career As A Florist

Simple at it may sound, a job as a florist is not all that easy. It is not simply throwing together a bunch of flowers that makes an arrangement. You need to know the simple color combinations and special flowers that go with certain occasions. Some flowers symbolize the making or breaking an arrangement too. You ought to know it all before harboring the thought of becoming a florist.

Job Of A Florist

Being a florist is not a glamorous job. You have to deliver flower arrangements according to the occasion. It could be a funeral or a wedding. Keeping in mind that the customer may not be aware of the various flower arrangements, a florist must be able to make suitable suggestions. On an average day, you may have to make wreaths for funerals and various other types of arrangements. Posies or sheaves are mostly put together in front of the customer.

The duties in a florist's shop include:

o Unwrapping the flower stock

o Spraying the flowers and conditioning the plants

o Pricing merchandise and displaying it in an attractive manner

o Attending to customers and phone calls

o Completing and delivering orders and creating designs for the shop

o Keeping the shop clean and tidy

o Keeping a work record

o Putting up new arrangements in the shop window display regularly

Training

Some community colleges conduct classes in floral designing. However, if you are really set on becoming a florist, all you need is the passion and hands-on experience. Many florists start off as apprentices in flower shops. After years of working in the industry, some move on to setting up their own shops. The American Institute of Floral Designers offers aspiring florists the opportunity to earn a certificate that specifies 'Accredited in Floral Design'. Potential members are asked to submit pictures of their flower arrangements. Live demonstrations are conducted by AIFD judges.

The institute also offers grants for student research in the area of floral design. An AIFD accreditation is said to be of the highest standing in the world of floriculture.

Associated Careers

Typically, florists are small-business owners. Other jobs that need similar skills include wedding and party designing, gardening and landscaping.

If you wish to be a florist, you can begin by making small arrangements for your family and friends. Take up small flower arrangement tasks at family functions or birthday parties. Click pictures of these arrangements to give your prospective employer a brief peek at your skills.

Besides the training, an aspiring florist needs to build a healthy rapport with customers. This helps in developing a strong client base for future business. Your care and the personal attention paid towards each flower arrangement, adds to the personal touch desired.

Most florists enjoy their jobs because they love plants and flowers. Additionally, they are aware that they add color to everyone's life.

3 Simple Ways to Make Nature Wedding Invitations

At last, your fianc矇 said 'Yes!' to your proposal. You are now engaged to one another. Several months from now, you will be officially married to one another. The wedding is near and the two of you know that. You are excited and the first thing that you would like to do is to make wedding invitations. Yes, wedding invitations are always the priority when it comes to wedding. You have to make invitations so that you can inform other people of your upcoming event. What type of invitation are you planning to make? Care to give some thought to nature wedding invitations?

Nature wedding invitations would be a great choice most especially if you like to save some money. Take note, you will be spending a huge amount of money in the wedding ceremony - the foods, the venue, the accessories and many more - so you might want to cut your expenses when it comes to the invitations. Well, if you have lots of money, then you might not want to consider such invitations, however, why don't you save that money for your honeymoon or for the future? Who knows, you might have money today, but in the future, you might experience some financial problems. So as early as now, you have to figure out how to cut your expenses.

Okay, so here are 3 ways on how you can make nature wedding invitations:

Use leaves. Leaves are everywhere, thus you will not have any problems with this. Go to your backyard and then pick stunning leaves. For best result, pick dried ones. The reason behind this is that if you will pick the fresh ones, they will dry up easily and you might not like the effect later on.

To make invitations out of leaves, you just need glue, colors and some decorations. You can directly paste the leaf on the invitation, while at the same time, creating an image so as to make it beautiful. Or, you can also color the leaf and then press it on the paper. It will leave a mark on the paper which is pretty amazing.

Use flowers. Instead of drawing flowers in your wedding invitations, why don't you just include real flowers? This will be cheaper and more exciting to make. However, before including any flowers in your invitation make sure to preserve them first. Why? Just like fresh leaves, flowers will fade and the result would be not good, but, if you will preserve them, they will not lose their beauty.

Use pine cone. If you have lots of pine trees in your area, you might want to consider using pine cones. Pine cones retain the same color; however, since they are thick, you have to make use of thick papers. You can create an image using these cones or you can simply make them as decorations.

So as you can see, it is very easy to make nature wedding invitations. These won't require much money from you; they just need some of your time, energy and creativity. Consider them and surely, your guests will be amazed by your creativity.

How to Keep Track of Wedding Invitation Responses - RSVP Or Response Cards?

You've planned your wedding down to the very last detail. Any and every slight minutia has been taken care of. The last thing you want is unexpected guests ruining your perfect ceremony seating, your beautiful pre-planned seating chart, or throwing off the number of beef and chicken entrees. For that reason, most brides now choose to include RSVP cards or response cards along with their wedding invitations when they are sent out. Sounds easy enough, right? But what are the dos and don'ts of response cards?

DO Keep Track of Wedding Invitations Responses

Miss Manners may look down on including RSVP cards in your wedding invitations, but then again, Miss Manners isn't paying for your wedding. (And if we all listened to Miss Manners, your guests would all be sending RSVPs on their own personal stationary anyway.) Response card wording etiquette isn't as strict as with wedding invitations. Simply leave a space for the names of the guests and include check boxes for whether they will or will not attend. After that, the sky's the limit as to how you word it.

DON'T Assume Everyone has Perfect Handwriting

While you may have painstakingly written out all of your wedding invitations in perfect calligraphy, not everyone has the greatest handwriting. You may not be able to read some of your guests' "fancy" responses, so cover your bases. Number each name on your guest list and lightly place that number on the back or corner of the response card. This way, if you can't figure out the guests' handwriting, you can simply check the number on the back of the card and match it to the corresponding guest on your list.

DO Make it Easy to Send Back Response Cards

You don't want to leave anything to chance, so make it easy for guests to respond by pre-printing your name and address and putting a stamp on the RSVP card envelope. Traditionally, the RSVP card should be addressed to the host of the wedding (i.e. your parents), but if you are hosting the wedding yourself, or you live a long way away from the host, you will need to come up with an appropriate response label. Traditionally speaking, the names of the bride and groom should not appear together in print until after the wedding; if the couple is living together before the wedding, the RSVP cards should be addressed to the bride only.

DO Limit Your Number of Guests

If you have a strict budget that you are sticking to, or want to subtly let guests know that you don't want kids or their random dates at your wedding, there are a few ways you can do this on your wedding invitations' response cards. Include a line on the response card that says __ of __ guests will attend. You can then fill in the second blank with how many guests are invited. If this seems too tacky for you, include check boxes for 1 or 2 guests to limit the number of uninvited tag-alongs. This makes it seem like everybody is only allowed 1 guest, and you can always print separate response cards for large families in which you just leave a blank for the number of guests they will be bringing.

DO Include an RSVP Deadline for Response Cards

Most venues or caterers require a definite headcount of how many guests will be attending your ceremony/reception, and if you are making wedding favors, seating charts, programs or menus, you may need to know too. Find out when you or others need to know your final headcount by (usually it's about two weeks before the wedding), and then set your RSVP deadline at least two weeks before that. You will always have procrastinators on your guest list that will put off sending their RSVP to the very last day (maybe they're still looking for a date?), so you will be relieved to have a buffer between the RSVP deadline on your wedding invitation response cards and the deadline when you actually need to know.

DON'T Wait for Late RSVP Cards to Come to You

With the amount of time and money that you are putting into your wedding, you shouldn't have to guess when it comes to the final headcount. Most guests will understand that, and will send back their response card in a reasonable time span. However, RSVP cards could get lost, or maybe your forgetful Aunt Sally simply didn't remember to send it in. Don't wait for these guests' response cards to come to you! If you haven't received an RSVP by your deadline, go ahead and give them a call. There's no need to be rude about it, just make sure they have received the invitation, and then confirm that they are coming. If you can't reach a guest, go ahead and assume that they will come. After all, it's better to have an empty seat than have a guest with nowhere to sit.

Handmade And Custom Wedding Invitations - How Do I Find What I'm Looking For?

This area of wedding invitations is very popular. You will find a quality and variation of styles far beyond that of most large department stores. Simply because not every one has access or the knowledge at their fingertips of this niche area. Of who can do what and where. In the large department stores the bridal couple is caught up in the occasion of buying her dress and other bits and it is convenient to purchase stationery there and then. With out any knowledge or understanding of what else is on offer elsewhere. Especially any alternative Handmade and Custom Wedding Invitations.

Many of these niche companies are small cottage businesses, providing a service second to none. They may range from adding and gluing bits onto a card covers and adding glitter glue. Or lace threaded across the card cover mimicking the bridal bodice of old. Hand labor that a larger store could not provide but a smaller business is only to willing to do for the love and success of their designs. Then there are the companies that feel that there is to much formality in the wedding and that a more light hearted approach need apply. This could be in the form of a caricature of the couple in any pose or situation printed onto their card. How individual is that? With all the guests receiving a card it surely provides a great talking point before, during and after the wedding. Not to mention that because it is so unique many guests will keep these as a keepsake. I can't think of to many stores that would happen with.

The point I am making is that look beyond the obvious, the big stores and stationery providers and you will find a abundance of alternative and equally as good wedding invitations that will compete with the large firms on price, quality and give service second to none.

If you have the time to plan ahead for your wedding it is worth seeing exactly what is best suited for you, your budget and the memory of your day. Think about what else is out there for you like Handmade and Custom Wedding Invitations.

Artificial Flower Arrangements - Worth the Money?

Are artificial flower arrangements really worth the money? It's a fair question, but today's answer is going to be significantly different than it was ten years ago because of the vast improvements in quality due to improved technology. The value can depend largely on the sources you choose. Generally speaking you're going to find a much higher quality in a specialized name brand product from stores that specialize in artificial botanicals versus your local big box department store. Of course what you need it for largely determines what quality you need to choose. If you're looking for a few stems for the cemetery (check their policy first) to last for several months you can do fine at your local discount craft store. However, if it's professionally designed artificial flower arrangements or bouquets for your wedding, it's going to require a different search entirely. It all begins by looking in the right places, and weighing your budget ahead of time. Other considerations are the environments where your flowers or plants will be placed. If you're planning an outdoor wedding, nothing is more versatile nor more beautiful than a correctly planned selection of silk botanical sprays, silk flower arrangements and artificial floral decor. Don't worry about fragility, as the silk style will handle most any weather environment and look fabulous doing it.

If you're the crafty person, or trust a close friend who is, you may be able to fashion your own ideas providing you're prepared for the outcome and the amount of work involved. Some have a real touch for crafting artificial flower arrangements and some don't, but don't add to your stress level wondering when and if the final product is going to meet your satisfaction. In other words if you can afford professionally customized artificial florals I wholeheartedly recommend them. They can be ordered and RECEIVED well ahead of time. I also recommend if you order on line that you order at least several individual stems as samples well ahead of time so you know it's the style and quality you expect. If you're familiar with some of the top brand names it would be helpful to know what the retailer uses. Some of the ones we recommend are Larksilk, Flowers Royale, Aldik, Botanical Silk, or Silk Visions, being high end custom made floral designs that you will always treasure.

Special occasions like Mother's Day, Valentine's Day, Thanksgiving, or Christmas can mean the need to find a unique, everlasting gift, and there are some gorgeous artificial flower arrangements available. Do you have a sibling that always seems to "out do" you for Mother's Day? Mom will never forget this presentation, as she will be displaying it daily, providing you consider her present decor and choose carefully. You don't have to break the piggy bank to get a nice display, but always get the best for your money.

Something a little different for yourself might be a pair of floral wall sconces to decorate your own home, as you know the style and colors best for your abode. Wreaths and arches are also great items to decorate with inside and out year round. Let your imagination (and your budget) be your guide, but always get the best you can to be happy with the look and performance.

No matter if you're looking for simple or elaborate artificial flower arrangements, you'll be surprised and probably elated with what you find. Plan ahead, shop carefully and your efforts will pay off beautifully whether it be for that special wedding, or for adding spectacular decor to your home or office for years of enjoyment.

Jewelry Insurance - What You Should Know to Be Sure You Are Protected

Not all homeowners or renters insurance policies offer full coverage for you engagement ring or your other valuable jewelry. Your insurance policy probably covers jewelry theft but not loss for other reasons.

The Typical Insurance Policy

A renter or homeowners insurance policy usually set limits on the loss of certain categories of personal property, like jewelry. Homeowners policies typically pay a maximum of $1,000 for jewelry theft. Where as a renter's insurance might only pay $500.

You should know whether your insurance policy covers jewelry loss for reasons other than theft like if jewelry is lost or damaged. Read your policy carefully and be sure to ask your agent to explain the types of losses that are covered by your insurance policy.

Buy Additional Jewelry Insurance

You can also purchase additional insurance for your fine jewelry, but be sure to ask your agent plenty of questions so that you fully understand the coverage:

Is there a deductible? If there is, how much is it and if you raise or lower your deductible will it affect your policy costs?

Does the policy require an appraiser to value the jewelry? Do they have only certain types of appraisers whose reports are acceptable?

Are the items covered anywhere? Will the insurance protect you on a domestic or international trip?

Is your jewelry covered for full replacement cost? Will you have to replace the item, or can you get a cash settlement?

Does the policy cover repairs to damaged jewelry?

Some Jewelry Insurance Options

The Chubb Group provides insurance specifically for jewelry. They offer insurance through independent insurance agents and jewelry retailers. This is an example of The Chubb Group's engagement ring policy guidelines"

Full coverage for the itemized amount shown on the policy.

Do Deductible.

Coverage applies worldwide for lost or stolen rings.

Replacement is not required, Chubb offers a cash settlement. If you do replace the ring you select the jeweler.

They also recommend you get an appraisal for all insured jewelry, but only for pieces valued over $50,000. Chubb does not cover loose diamonds.

Jewelers Mutual is another insurance company that offers policies that cover jewelry. They cover both repair and replacement. They do not cover unset stones, damaged items, or antique jewelry. An appraisal is required for their coverage.

Always make sure you read any fine print in your policy and be sure to ask your agent to clarify anything that you do not fully understand.

Mustang Shelby GT History: 1965-2011

1965-1966
The first GTs were Shelby modified K-Code 289 cubic [4.7 liter] V8 Fastbacks that had their power increased from 271 HP up to 306 HP. Shelby ordered 252 units of 1965 Fastbacks for his conversion into 1966 Shelby GT350. The project itself began in August of 1964 and in September the first Shelby GT350s were born. The public unveil was done on January 27 of 1965. Shelby GT350 also featured Hooly carburetor, Cobra valve covers, special Cobra hi-rise intake manifold, 4-speed manual transmission, side exhaust pipes, Wimbledon white body color with 2 stripes and no back seats, because of SCCA's requirements [2-door coupes only]. All in all, there were 562 Shelby GT350 street legal and 37 GT360R units built in 1965. The Shelby GT350R were built for races only.

The 1966 production had 2378 GT250s built where 4 of them were special order convertibles for Shelby himself. Some say, there were 6 of these convertibles, but on 4 correct VINs are discovered.

Shelby struck a deal with the Hertz Corporation in 1965 in order to build a special line of 1001 GT350H V8s for "rent a racer" program, which helped Shelby to expose Shelby Mustangs across the country.

1967-1968
In 1967 Mustang Gt350 carried over with 289 cubic aluminum Cobra V8. Regular Mustangs could get 320 HP power by installing 4-barrel carburetor. Of course, Shelby went further and the new Shelby GT500 model was built in 1967 too. It was equipped with reworked 428 cubic [7 liter] Police Interceptor engine with cast-aluminum intake manifold [from Ford's 427] and twin Hooley 4-barrel carburetors to get 355 HP. GT500 had a 4-speed manual or 3-speed automatic transmission, power steering and air conditioning. The body had new nose, functional hood scoop, side body air intakes.
The 1968 Shelby GT500KR [King of the Road] had 428 cubic Cobra Jet V8 engine and developed suspiciously low 335 HP.

1969-1970
Shelby terminated the agreement with Ford in 1969, but he still had a little bit of his impact in 69-70 GT model range. Actually, the 1970 GTs were 1969 Shelby leftovers and that is why 1970 GTs were still Shelbys. The GT350 and GT 500 got quite a big facelift change. 1969-1970 Shelby GT350 got a 351 cubic [5. liter] V8 engine, while the GT500 got its 428 cubic [7 liter] V8 muscle. Transmission choice was the same: 3-speed automatic or 4-speed manual.

2006-2008
2006-Ford-Mustang-Shelby-GT - After Ford revived the 5th generation Mustang, Shelby created a special edition 2006 Shelby GT-H which was the offspring of the original 1966 Shelby GT350H "rent and race" muscle car. Only about 500 units were built. Those were equipped with 320 HP 4.6 liter GT V8 engine, 90 mm cold air intake kit, X-pipe, performance suspension, 5-speed automatic transmission, etc. The convertible Shelby GT-H was offered to rent in 2007.

2008-barrett-jackson-shelby-gt - There was one more special edition of 100 units unveiled in 2008 - the Barrett-Jackson Shelby GT. The Shelby pony delivers 319 HP from a Ford Racing V8 and is equipped with 5-speed manual gearbox that has Hurst short-throw shifter or a 5-speed automatic. The cars have special tuned dampers, unique sway bars inside and 18 inch alloys, Shelby Cobra hood scoop, Lemans stripes and fully black interior.

The 2006 Shelby GT500 uses 5.4 liter supercharged V8 and develops 500 HP. It also features 6-speed Tremec manual transmission, has some suspension tuning done and rides on 18-inch wheels. These cars were build in collaboration of SVT and Carroll Shelby for 3 years only, but there were about 30.000 units built.

The King of the Road model was unveiled back in 2007, in NY auto show. The Anniversary 2008 Shelby GT500KR has the same engine as GT500, but due to functional cold air intake and unique calibration this 32 valve 5.4 liter supercharged V8 engine develops as much as 540 HP [40 HP more than GT500]. The KR Mustang features carbon fiber hood with functional scoops and vents, unique carbon fiber splitter, functional brake cooling ducts, SVT-tuned suspension, some more parts from Ford Racing.

Since 2007, the Terlingua Team offers a special package for the V6 Mustangs, that includes "serious performance enhancements and striking visual cues". The package will, of course, include the Shelby serial number...2007 Ford Shelby GT500 Red Stripe Appearance Package

If You already have GT500 and still feel unsatisfied, You may sent it to Shelby's Special Performance Plant in Las Vegas and have it rebuilt into Super Snake. This rebuilt SS features some special badging, new Alcoa wheels, ram-air SS hood, stripes, splitters, 6-piston Bear brakes and many other performance features including the 5.4 Liter Kenne Bell twin-screw supercharged engine that develops 605 or 725 HP [no warranty for this one].

2010-2011
Along with the 2010 Mustang facelift came the new GT500. It had the same 5.4 liter engine but the power was increased up to 540 HP by adding cold air intake [similar to KR's]. SVT retuned the suspension a bit by adding 19 inch wheels.

The 2011 Shelby GT500 will get an engine update - it'll be the new 5.4 aluminum V8 that is 102 pounds lighter, and more powerful - 550 HP. The car stance is lowered by 11/8 millimeters in front/rear. The steering is assisted by new electric system, external design includes SVT performance package, 19/20 inch front/rear wheels, optional glass roof, etc.

Due to 45th Anniversary in 2011 the legendary 1965 Shelby GT350 special Mustang edition was unveiled by Shelby. 5.0 liter small block V8 will be fitted with Ford's Racing [FR] supercharger to gain 500 HP, FR suspension, 6-speed manual transmission, Borla exhaust, 6 piston Baer brakes, 19 inch Cragar wheels, front splitter, functional hood scoop, redesigned tail lights, new dashboard for interior, etc.

Frankly, it looks like Shelby started to loose its "sought after" feature by modifying "simple" Mustangs into Shelby ones in their Shelby Mod Shops and listing them in Shelby registry as pure-blooded. We do expect that only the real production Shelbys will maintain and even increase their historical and financial value in the future.

Hanging Outdoor String Lights

String lights are found to enliven every festive occasion - from birthday celebrations to wedding ceremonies. Not because they are the low investment decoration mode, but due to the fact that they can be used in any combinations and the flexibility they offer in arranging them.

It all depends on the creativity used in the arrangement of the lights that makes them more amusing to see.

Wedding Insurance - Is it a Must?

You're probably asking yourself why you would need wedding insurance. Most of you are probably wondering if it's just a big con. But if you want protection - from venues to your wedding attire - then be safe and get insured.

On the average, weddings nowadays cost anywhere from $17000 to $30000. Imagine all that money and hard work goes down the drain just because you refused to shell out wedding insurance premiums. First of all, what does wedding insurance cover?

Just like any other insurance policy, wedding insurance will cover risks that might disrupt your wedding. This type of policy will cover loss or damage associated with your wedding and wedding plans. For example, plans exist that can cover loss or damage to your wedding dresses, presents, cake and even damage to your venue. Imagine what will happen if sudden rain ruined your perfect day. Most people use their credit cards in order to pay for their weddings. With wedding insurance, you can get some of your money back in case your presents or clothes get ruined by something unexpected like theft or robbery. You can also ask your insurer to cover for damages at the wedding reception should your guests get too rowdy and wreak havoc on the venue.

During weddings you will be mostly using suppliers to deliver favors, food and other related services. We all know that there is a possibility that these suppliers for reasons of their own might fail to deliver on the fated day. When you have a safety net like wedding insurance at least you are protected in some way and you will be able to get money back in case something goes wrong with these services. Your deposits can be reimbursed and you will be able to get the party moving by hiring other services. Some companies even cover for legal expenses, personal accident and even stress related therapy!

Some couples choose to have their weddings in beaches, out of the country resorts and even exotic locations. Weddings like these take on an additional risk and these can be covered by wedding travel insurance. They specialize in dealing with risks related to weddings that occur when couples choose these types of weddings.

Depending on the complexity and detail covered by your wedding insurer, canceled dates, rescheduling and even replacement of expensive items - like your wedding rings - can be covered by the policy you buy. This gives not only the bride and groom but the whole wedding party peace of mind before and during the whole wedding planning.

Don't let yourself be lulled into a false sense of security. Fact is a lot of mishaps, changes and problems can happen during a wedding. Some people think that wedding insurance is just an unwanted extra cost that insurers come up with in order to get more money from their clients. While it is unlikely that anything bad will happen during your wedding, wedding insurance is not that expensive, but it is an extra cost.

So step back and think out of the box. A wedding just like any other event in your life has risks and carries with it a number of potential headaches. The right thing to do is to get a reasonable coverage just in case these problems become a reality. Wedding insurance is an extra cost but that cost is negligible if the alternative is to pay for the whole wedding all over again.

How to Make the Best First Impression With Wedding Cards

So you're getting married? Congratulations. You've got plenty of wedding planning in front of you, and decisions to make. And one of those decisions is about your wedding invitations.

Remember that the first impression that your guests get about your planned wedding is the moment they open your wedding invitations. And for some it may even be the first time they know you're getting married if you've kept it a little quiet.

So your wedding card has quite a role to play in your wedding. And some people, when they open up the letter and take out the invitation, will make up their mind about coming right there. So you want a marriage invitation that makes a good first impression.

The best piece of advice I can give you about buying your wedding invitations is to do so after you've got some basic wedding planning in place. It's important, for example, to have your wedding theme in mind when choosing your invitations.

It's important that your wedding theme be reflected in your invitation. For example if the bride and groom are gardening enthusiasts and want to have a wedding with a garden theme then wedding invitations with images of flowers or gardens would make a fine first impression about your wedding theme, but invitations with boats, or example, wouldn't.

So do some simple wedding planning first, and once you know more about your basic wedding theme, then choose your invitations.

And think about your working too. You want the wording of your invitation to reflect your wedding theme and your own hopes for how the day will be.

And there's some other things to think about too. Should you use electronic marriage cards? There are some people now happy to use electronic wedding cards, particularly those amongst us a little younger.

However I'd advise against using electronic wedding cards. Although they have one major advantage, being cheap, they also have disadvantages. There will always be some people who will find an electronic wedding invitation a little tacky. Or a lot tacky. Even some of the younger members of the community have a strong sense of the traditions of weddings, and may well find receiving an electronic wedding invitation to be a little disappointing.

If you're on a budget and considering electronic marriage invitations because they are cheap there are always ways to find great looking cheap wedding invitations way cheaper than at the prices you'll find for invitations from wedding stores.

Online marriage cards are very cheap, if you buy in the right place, and they aren't cheap looking tacky invitations either. There are some very good marriage invitations available online way cheaper than you'd expect.

So when it comes to wedding invitations remember. Do some planning before you choose your invitations, including what wording you want. Think of your theme, and how you would like your proposed wedding guests to feel the moment they see your invitation. Avoid electronic wedding invitations, despite the fact that they are cheap.

And if you're on a budget, and who isn't these days, buy your shaadi cards online. You'll be surprised at the cheap wedding invitations you can find online.

How to Make Love Last a Lifetime: Signature Love Notes for Newly Weds

Marriage remains a sacred institution no matter how aggressive our culture of independence and self-reliance. Protecting your vows after marriage so it can flourish is a must. Time is not on your side. It is predicted that most marriages will succumb to a number of pressures that grow in intensity within a fourteen-month window. Couples who base their relationship on emotion alone are the most vulnerable with love being the most overused and misunderstood word in the English language. Love is a "fruit," layered to enhance its power and force of nature. Marriage will require the couple to examine and adopt a marriage construct that defines it more comprehensively. With each annotation, they move closer to the tools needed to make their love last a lifetime; they will possess signature love notes. Love is multi-dimensional in construct and must be understood as such. Failure to do so makes you a candidate for the fourteen-month window of statistical vulnerability. The further you are from defining love more comprehensively, the more vulnerable you become. Therefore, love must be defined within a broader construct; synthesizing a number of properties to sustain the marriage covenant. Here is a brief overview of that construct.

Psychological - Signature of Influence: A definite, preconceived notion of a personal preference for a mate. Preferences have been influenced by culture and by distinct character tracts that have had a lifetime for maturation. Personal preferences then determine if the relationship journey begins.

Physiological - Signature of Attraction: Human anatomy and its appeal are related to culture and character. Physical attraction is typically what grabs attention first and then there comes a deeper revelation of compatibility. What you look like before the "I do," oftentimes than not, is the lowest threshold of expectation after the vows. Improvement is anticipated.

Technological - Signature of Accountability: Access to conversations to get to know one another better happens multi-contextually to include modern-day online mediums. Understanding the role social networking sites can play in nurturing or disturbing a relationship, needs to be explored and understood with proper boundaries established from the beginning.

Artistical - Signature of Presence: Expressions of caring across the continuum is very important to the relationship. The more ways you can say you care the better. Being creative and imaginative keeps the excitement in marriage and leaves no room for it to become visionless and lifeless. Being intentional about eating together and the types of meals prepared; to the home, you live in and its aesthetic appeal; to plans for date day as well as times when the two of you take individual retreats, are components of the continuum. Couples reflect each other in a number of ways, and the public domain is where the stakes are the highest. By taking pride in your mate and respecting public protocols of behavior; you secure this component for lasting love.

Theological - Signature of Submission: Your faith has everything to do with the longevity of your marriage. It is the evidence you sow into your relationship that you are committed through the challenges of marriage. There can be no difference here. Life is a peculiar journey. There is predictability sewn in every garment; strewn along every path you take but then there are the unpredictable moments and situations that will require you to have faith. Not only is your faith critical here, but your adherence to a set of beliefs; principles of trust and confidence that guide you individually and your marriage collectively. You willingly submit to each other, and the established boundaries are respected. This is the only layer of Signature Love Notes: How to Keep Love for a Life Time, is a construct that calls for mutual agreement on faith. If there is no mutual agreement, it is a deal breaker for getting married. Entering a marriage relationship without a clear understanding of individual theological beliefs accelerates the fourteen-month window.

Economical - Signature of Responsibility: A happy home is built on a lot of things, and finance is a key pillar. Women, in particular, need to feel a sense of security. Living space and finances for daily living require intentional actions to ensure there is always more than enough to meet such needs. Stressors in marriage have a tendency to be the most dominant at this level of the continuum. The financial well-being of a couple has little to do with the extent of the wealth. Couples from all economic backgrounds are faced with money matters that disrupt "happy" homes. Adhering to a principled value of being debt free "before" marriage is a wise consideration. Working to reduce debt is a good start but being debt free coupled with intentional spending habits, is a recipe for basking in love for a lifetime.

Your Signature has identifiable markings that are distinctly distinguishable as yours. Your preferences in a mate and all the signature love notes that make up this thing called "love," observations, and other messaging systems you use to communicate your level of care and concern, must be understood before you say, "I do." Each signature stroke must resonate with the unique tones of your mate.
