Top Tips for Custom Made Wedding Dresses

Custom made wedding dresses are an elegant way to stamp your own personality on an exceptionally special day. Yet to really get the true romantic benefits, there are a few things that are worth keeping in mind:

• If you are having one made 'by correspondence', it may be highly advisable to have a local specialist take your measurements in line with the dressmaker's requirements - trying to do it yourself is fine but even a minor error might result in unsightly bulges, a poor fit and expensive alternations.

• If you are taking measurements, remember that your body shape may change at certain types of the month (so your breasts and abdomen may not be quite the same size and shape on your wedding day as they were when the measurements were taken) - an experienced seamstress will discuss these things with you of course.

• Even the most exquisite custom made wedding dresses can have their appearance ruined by a poor choice of lingerie - remember that practicality might be more the order of the day than provocative sexiness (you can always change later on).

• Some women choose to wear garters and stockings on their wedding day for the sake of tradition or sexiness (or both), even if they never do so normally - remember, though, that a combination of lack of experience and a poorly-fitting or poor quality garter belt may result in your stockings ending up around your ankles, which is not normally the look a bride is hoping to achieve!

• Traditional bridal shoes to match custom made wedding dresses are usually one of the great 'final touches' but once again, think about practicality - the short walk to the altar or registry desk may be one of the longest and most dangerous of your life if your shoes are all glamour but virtually unwearable!

• On the day itself, it's typically a good idea to be as restrained as possible when it comes to getting dressed. Avoid the temptation to don the gown too early - even the very highest quality bespoke custom made wedding dresses may be vulnerable to accidents, and the longer you have it on for before the big event, the higher the chances are that such an accident will take place.

• Try to select and then stay with a design; multiple changes to the design of a wedding dress may prove to be expensive and nerve-wracking as you wait to hear if it can be finished on time.

Investing in custom made wedding dresses can certainly make a big impact on your big day - but keep in mind the above tips to make sure the experience is a positive one!
