Once you have your wedding date, time and place set you can focus on your invitations. Making wedding invitations yourself isn't difficult and should be expensive. Many times you will hear of people making their own invitations for their wedding and they spend more than ordering them.
If having something unique and still saving money is your goal than here are some suggestions for making wedding invitations yourself.
- Use blank notecards. Sometimes you can find cards that will match your wedding decor. Take advantage of this. You can put the information on the inside and maybe even add some extra touches. You can then just have simple reception and RSVP cards that will compliment these. Many stores will have larger notecards and you will have the envelopes with them.
- Using brochure paper can even be an option. It is already scored for easy folding. You can print them out to fold like a z fold and they become a unique invitation. You can add your special touches such as die cut outs, charms, ribbons or what ever you like
- Using a bookmark effect with heavier card stock. You can get 3 sheets cut from one eight and half by eleven sheet of card stock. Then put the information on the card, either put a ribbon through a hole you put in the top or add a tassel through it. Make sure it will mail ok. though. These will mail in a standard #10 envelope so it isn't difficult to find them. Add a piece of wedding clip art to the envelope to dress it up too. You can use some of the remaining card stock to cut out your RSVP and reception cards. You can get 5 1/2 bar envelopes at most craft stores. These will fit snuggly inside. You can also opt to make a postcard RSVP.
You can see that making wedding announcements yourself isn't that difficult. You won't need to use that expensive paper and envelopes to get a unique nice invitation.
The money that you save by getting your own supplies can add up. Learn how to use a good word processing program. I recommend Microsoft Works, You probably have it on your computer. Use a quality printer. I recommend an inexpensive Epson printer. They use a water proof ink that gives a good print out.
Get the knowledge to make your invitations and then get your supplies lined up. You will find making wedding invitations yourself isn't nearly as difficult as you think. Why not experiment a little and find out. You might be pleasantly surprised. You may even start making invitations for other events once you see how easy it is.
