Wedding Gifts Tips

Traditionally, a wedding gift lift contains items to do with the home. Usually these gifts might include an iron, a toaster, towels, bedding, glasses and cups, among other things. If you are not particular about the types and designs, then this is a great deal easier for your guests. They are able to buy quality that they can reasonably afford, and you get what you want. With this in mind one of the easiest ways is to write down a list that may be passed among friends and family and ticked off as they are bought.

If you have a preference as to certain types of stores, such as if you want to match designs on dinnerware or china than have a list placed with your favourite store. The beauty of this is that guests are able to walk into the store, phone it or even check online and ask what gifts are in their price range that the couple wants and choose from these.

An alternative to this is to write down each gift that you would like on a small piece of paper and then have your friends and relatives choose from a hat. This may work out well if all your friends and relatives are in the same financial situation. However, it may be a little unfair if someone ends up having to pay out a great deal more than another guest and money is tight for them.

If you and your partner have been married before or living together as a couple before marriage then you may not need the essential "setting up home" wedding gifts. If so, you may wish to ask for store vouchers or even a bit of money. If you have chosen vouchers you may ask all wedding guests to get them from the same place, you can build them up, and then you can both go and choose something you really need after the wedding. If you prefer cash you could write down your bank account number and sort code on the back of the invitations and have money paid into your account. There are even online cash giving services that for a small fee manage it all for you. This way everyone can give you just as much as they can afford, and it is done in secrecy. If you have everything you need then you may wish to ask people to donate on your behalf to your favourite charity.

If guest will be bringing your wedding gifts to the reception you may wish to take out insurance for them. Typically, wedding insurance might cover breakage and damage of the gifts plus it may give protection against them being stolen. You could, for example, have packed them in your car and return to the car at the end of the evening to find that your car has been broken into. Some home insurance companies now offer temporary additional cover for wedding gifts for a short period before and after the big day. If the gifts you've received add up to a significant value though, you should look at increasing the sum your home contents are insured for anyway.
