Self Adhesive Envelope Printing - Everything You Need to Know About Self Seal Envelopes

Self-sealing envelopes are used extensively to mail letters, invoices, catalogs, brochures, and many other items. They are most often printed in 1, 2, or 4 colors. The larger envelopes have been printed not just for mailing, but for use by accounting departments, mail rooms, fundraisers, mortgage processing companies, marathons, wedding planners, seminars, CPA's, and schools, to name a few. Any business that needs to collect documents, keep track of them, or benefits from a check list printed on the envelope, will find value in having the larger envelopes printed on the outside.

Self adhesive envelopes are referred to by many different names, which can be confusing because these different terms are used interchangeably and often, incorrectly.

Types of Self-Sealing Envelopes

There are three styles of closures on self-sealing envelopes. The Flip-N-Stick, also called the simple seal, is the most popular #10 self-seal envelope and comes with or without a window. The #10 envelope, as it is known, is used to mail letters, invoices, bank statements, resumes, etc. You seal the envelope by raising both flaps, and then closing the upper flap down over the lower flap. Latex Seal envelopes have adhesive on the envelope and the flap so when pressed together, they seal. The Peel-N-Seal簧 is the third option. They come with the flap open and you simply peel away the material covering the adhesive. Then you close the envelope.

Types of Paper and Sizes

The Flip-N-Stick comes in 24# white wove, with or without an inside security tint, and in the #10 size of 4 1/8" x 9 1/2".

Latex Seal envelopes come in a variety of sizes. The most common "standard" sizes are: 6" x 9", 6" x 9 1/2", 9" x 12", 9 1/2" x 12 1/2", 10" x 15", and 12" x 15 1/2". Depending on the size, these envelopes are available in both 24# or 28# weights and either Booklet or Catalog styles. (Booklet style has the flap on the long side. Catalog style has the flap on the short side). Some items are also available with a window. Regarding the paper colors, the two most common options are White Wove and Brown Kraft.

Peel-N-Seal簧 envelopes also have a variety of options. There are many different sizes, and the 2 most common paper weights are 24# and 28#.
